About this work

A pencil sketch on tan paper shows a row of large canvas tents set among tall pines and bare trees, with a wooden picket fence in front. Several uniformed men stand in the camp, and the handwritten inscription identifies the scene as General J. Hooker's headquarters tent, Army of the Potomac. The drawing is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1863.
