About this work
A pencil and gray-toned sketch shows a dense pine forest with soldiers advancing in a column at the lower right and a line of log breastworks in the middle distance where figures fire amid puffs of smoke. A seated figure rests at the left edge, and the handwritten annotation "5th Corps" and "7th" appears at the top. The work is catalogued as a drawing by Alfred Waud dated 1865.
