About this work
A pencil sketch on tan paper shows an elaborate interior with a draped central structure, a curved and coffered ceiling, and two standing figures in military dress at the sides. Lower on the sheet are smaller studies of drapery, a chandelier, and decorative elements. The drawing is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1865, and it relates to the Lincoln funeral in Springfield, Illinois.
