About this work
A graphite sketch on brown paper shows a group of men gathered around a table in an interior, with uniformed figures in kepi caps, one holding a rifle, and a seated officer reading a document. Handwritten annotations along the lower edge and beside the figures describe the scene as a provost marshal and police of Alexandria examining a prisoner of war. The work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1861.
