About this work

This 1887 drawing by Frederic Remington, published as a Harper's Weekly page illustration, shows men in wide-brimmed hats gathered around a card table in a dim, stone-walled ranch room lit by a hanging lamp. A standing figure gestures and another points an accusing finger across the table, suggesting the quarrel named in the title. Saddles, gear, and a shelved cabinet fill the corners of the room.
