About this work
A Japanese woodblock print shows a caricatured Russian soldier recoiling in fright and a second Russian soldier kneeling with hands pressed together beside discarded rifles. Above a crenellated wall, small toy-like figures of Japanese soldiers dangle from strings held by grinning Japanese soldiers. The print is by Kobayashi Kiyochika and dates to 1904, with a column of Japanese text in the upper right.
