About this work

A woodblock print shows a frightened soldier in a teal uniform and white trousers, raising his hands and stumbling away from a black silhouetted scarecrow holding a rifle in a field of grass. A tall yellow signpost reads 'From here New Japan' and a rifle lies on the ground, while a column of Japanese text fills the upper panel.
