About this work
This satirical woodblock print shows an oversized, smiling figure in a military cap and mawashi-style belt, flanked by a grimacing demon-like creature and a bare-chested warrior holding a sword, with purple banners bearing Chinese-style characters. The lower panel depicts bell-shaped caricatures and a small figure with a feathered helmet working at a wooden bench. Kobayashi Kiyochika made this print in 1895.
