About this work
This woodblock-style print by Kobayashi Kiyochika, dated 1904, shows two Japanese soldiers in khaki uniforms offering bowls to a kneeling Russian soldier in a green coat and red trousers who reaches out with cupped hands. A Japanese text panel above the scene and handwritten English captions along the top edge carry the satirical dialogue.
