About this work

A colored Japanese woodblock print shows a caricatured Russian admiral in a peaked cap and tall black boot, pointing and posing beside three laughing sailors in white uniforms. A columned text panel with Japanese script sits above the scene, and a handwritten English note on the top edge reads that the admiral has but one leg to stand on. The work is attributed to Kobayashi Kiyochika and dated 1904.
