John Lavery's painting shows a crowded gallery with deep red walls hung with gilt-framed paintings, lit by a barrel-vaulted skylight. Rows of visitors in hats and dark clothing fill the floor while a speaker stands at the right, and the inscription in the lower right reads that the Duveen Galleries were opened by the King and Queen at Millbank in July 1926.
