About this work

This engraved print, titled Caius Marius on the Ruins of Carthage, shows a bare-chested, bearded man in classical drapery seated among crumbling stone architecture beneath a dusky sky. A helmet and scattered fragments lie at his feet, and a distant colonnaded structure and aqueduct-like arches recede into the landscape. Schoff, dated 1842.
