About this work

A pale etched street view shows a two-story house with a columned gallery and iron railings on a corner, with a few pedestrians on the sidewalk and pigeons gathered on the wet paving in the foreground. Selective hand colour adds touches of red, pink and blue to the barrel, steps and pavement. This photogravure from Charles Frederick William Mielatz's 1908 series Picturesque New York reproduces his monotype of Rogers' house on State Street.
