About this work
A lithographic print shows sailors and officers on the deck of a warship, with a large cannon in the foreground and rigging and flags rising above them. Beyond the bow, a wide harbor opens toward a shoreline with buildings and distant snow-capped mountains. The work is credited to William Simpson, dated 1855, and titled Sebastopol from the sea, sketched from the deck of H.M.S. Sidon.
