About this work

This chromolithographic print titled Arms of the United States of America shows an allegorical seated female figure beneath a ring of stars with the motto E Pluribus Unum. Below her, a perched eagle rests atop a shield striped in red and white, flanked by a Native American figure in a red cloak and a uniformed man beside American flags, with weapons and cannonballs at their feet.
