About this work

A pencil drawing by Cornelis Springer, dated 1875, shows a canal lined with tall gabled townhouses and bare-branched trees along the quay. A small arched bridge crosses the water, and a figure or two walk along the street, with a wooden jetty and boathouse in the foreground at right. Faint measurement marks and handwritten annotations appear along the top and edges of the sheet.
