About this work

This etching by Willem Witsen, dated 1911, shows a canal lined with tall, narrow gabled houses with rows of windows. A small rowing boat floats on the water in the foreground, and a bridge with a distant skyline appears to the left beneath a sky rendered in fine diagonal hatching. The sheet carries a handwritten inscription and a monogram in the lower margin.
