About this work
This illustration shows a robed monk standing with clasped hands at left while three seated men in period dress, one in green with armor-like sleeves and one in a red cap, sit at a wooden table in a dim stone interior. The painting is credited to Howard Pyle, dated 1909, and was produced as a frontispiece for Harper's Magazine, titled The Satraps.
