About this work
A three-masted sailing ship with full sails and a red ensign flies signal flags as it moves through choppy green water toward a town skyline. The colored lithograph shows the vessel in profile with smaller ships visible on the horizon. The print by James Ward, dated 1843, commemorates the Raymond, commanded by Hugh McKay, as the first vessel direct from China to Hull.
