About this work
This etching shows a rustic log cabin interior with several uniformed men resting in the warmth of a stone fireplace, one reading a newspaper while others sit or lounge on a bunk and benches. Rifles lean near the open doorway, and the rough wooden walls and plank ceiling are rendered in fine hatched lines. Edwin Forbes made this print, titled Officers' Winter Quarters, in 1876.
