About this work
An etched print titled The Pontoon Bridges by Edwin Forbes, dated 1876, shows a column of marching men and a line of covered wagons pulled by mule teams crossing a plank pontoon bridge over a river. Rolling wooded hills, distant tents and a smoky sky fill the background, while tree stumps stand in the foreground on the right.
