About this work
A bearded, curly-haired male figure, nude to the waist, wrestles a roaring lion while bracing against a tree trunk. A quiver of arrows and a bow are visible at the upper left, and the monogram H.B. with the date 1515 appears on the quiver strap. The black-and-white woodcut uses dense parallel hatching to model the musculature and the lion's mane.
