About this work
A woodcut-style print shows a crowned, armored ruler seated in profile, holding a sword and scepter, with an orb and cushioned ornament above him. A large heraldic shield with an eagle and lion emblems sits at the lower right, and faint background outlines suggest a second design beneath. This recto sheet is from The Genealogy of Emperor Maximilian I by Hans Burgkmair, dated 1509.
