About this work

This sepia-toned print shows a packhorse loaded with bundled cargo beneath a tree, with soldiers in helmets and armor resting nearby and a woman in drapery tying a sack in the foreground. The image is an engraving after a drawing by John Hamilton Mortimer, and its inscription dedicates the plate to Colonel William Butler, published in London by J. R. Smith.
