About this work

An etched plate shows men straining on ropes to drag a grain-laden vessel from shallow water toward the bank, while armed horsemen and foot soldiers advance beside a river. A walled fortress with towers rises on the right, and a dense crowd of figures stands along the far shore. Bilingual Dutch and Latin captions appear below, and the plate is numbered 12 in the series, attributed to Otto van Veen.
