About this work
This black-and-white engraving shows a rural road lined with tall trees, with a horse-drawn covered wagon, a mounted rider, and a dog in the foreground. A distant village with a church spire lies across open fields under a cloudy sky. The inscription below the scene reads Vue Prés de Bruges and carries a dedication to the Marquis de Villette, with the engraver's name Demonchy noted in the lower corner, and the design is attributed to Brueghel de Velours.
