About this work
This engraved print shows a flat rural landscape with two windmills on a grassy rise, a horse-drawn cart and travelers on a dirt road, and a distant town under a cloudy sky. In the foreground, figures sit beside a dog and a skeleton lies on the ground near a tall wooden post with birds perched on it. The work bears an inscription dedicating it to Louis Joseph de Bourbon, Prince de Condé, and is credited to Brueghel de Velours as painter, with Le Bas as engraver.
