About this work
This etching shows a broad river or waterway lined with several windmills, including a large tower mill on the right and smaller mills on the left bank. Sailboats, rowboats, and figures on the shore and in boats are scattered across the water beneath a cloudy sky, with a distant village and church steeple on the horizon. The print is attributed to Jan Brueghel the Elder and bears the inscription reading the artist's name and the engraver Hollar's credit.
