About this work
An engraved full-length figure of a musketeer stands on a ground line, holding a long matchlock musket across his body with smoke rising from its barrel, while his left arm extends outward. He wears a close-fitting helmet, a falling collar, a bandolier with tassels, and wide breeches with tied boots, and a pike rests diagonally behind him. This plate is from Jacob de Gheyn II's Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten Ende Spiessen, numbered 37 in the lower right.
