About this work
This black and white mezzotint-style print depicts a monumental banquet hall with towering columns, terraced architecture, and a crowd of figures gathered around a laden table in the foreground. A dramatic light breaks through dark clouds at the upper left, while a glowing menorah-like candelabrum stands at the right. The work is titled Belshazzar's Feast and is attributed to John Martin, the first steel plate state of the composition.
