This etching shows a rustic thatched cottage half hidden among overgrown trees and shrubs, with a rough wooden fence and a stepped entrance in the foreground. The dense hatched linework and strong contrast give the scene an atmospheric, picturesque quality. The work is from John Thomas Smith's 1797 collection Remarks on Rural Scenery.
