About this work
This black and white etching shows a rural riverside scene with dense trees and shrubs in the foreground and middle ground. A small rowing boat with figures floats on the water at left, while a cottage with a chimney is partly hidden among the foliage on the right. The work is credited to John Thomas Smith and dated 1797, from the book Remarks on Rural Scenery.
