About this work
This black and white etching shows a rustic cottage with a thatched roof, a tall brick chimney, and a wooden ladder leaning against the roof. A beehive sits in the yard beside trees and tall flowering plants, with a sketchy, textured treatment of foliage. The plate is one of the cottage studies from John Thomas Smith's 1797 volume Remarks on Rural Scenery.
