About this work

This sepia-toned print shows a scene of Saint Roch being led into confinement, with a bearded figure leaning against a heavy door and a guard pushing from behind. A barred window sits high in the wall, and a figure with a staff looks on from the upper right. The inscription beneath identifies the subject as St. Roch Incarcerated, after a painting by Guercino in the Oratory of St. Roch in Bologna.
