About this work

This hand-coloured aquatint shows a large mosque viewed across a paved courtyard, with three bulbous domes, two tall fluted minarets, and a central pointed arch flanked by decorative roundels. Small groups of people move about the courtyard and gather near a rectangular pool, while arcaded wings and gateways frame the composition under a cloudy sky. The work is titled Oriental Scenery Fig 23, drawn and engraved by Thomas Daniell in 1795.
