About this work

This hand-coloured aquatint titled Oriental Scenery Fig 12 by Thomas Daniell, dated 1795, shows a multi-storied pavilion with several domes and open arched galleries set on a broad flat ground. To the right stands a whitewashed gateway with pointed arches, and tall palm trees rise along the horizon under a pale, cloud-filled sky. Small figures in light robes are scattered around the building and the courtyard.
