About this work

An engraved funerary monument shows a reclining effigy of a man draped across a tomb chest beneath a classical entablature supported by columns. A cat rests beside the figure, and a rectangular plaque in the centre carries a Latin and English inscription recording a death in 1673 at age 91. The tomb sits on a stepped urn-shaped base with a scrolled bracket, consistent with the 1791 engraving in Smith's Antiquities of London.
