About this work
This painting shows the nave of a church with a receding row of rounded arches supported by columns, under a timber ceiling. A small kneeling figure and a distant walking figure animate the sunlit stone floor, and an inscription along the lower edge notes the church of Gérace and its columns taken from an ancient temple. The work is attributed to Jacques-Raymond Brascassat and dated 1828.
