About this work

A painted scene shows a black and white pointer-type dog lying on straw with a litter of spotted puppies nestled around and against her body. The puppies, some black and white and some brown and white, are shown in varied poses, and the warm earthy background suggests a stable or barn. The work is titled "The new litter" and is attributed to Richard Ansdell.
