About this work

A sheet of five studies of recumbent sheep rendered in ink and wash on paper, with the animals shown lying down in varied poses and angles. The soft shading and loose hatching suggest careful observation of wool texture and body form. This study, titled Five Studies of Recumbent Sheep, is attributed to Aelbert Cuyp and dated 1646.
