About this work

A naval engagement unfolds in a bay as large brown-sailed junks are struck by an explosion sending debris and smoke into the sky, while an iron steamship with smoke trailing from its funnel sits at right. Small rowing boats filled with crew move across the water, and figures float among the wreckage in the foreground.
