This night scene shows a luminous moon at upper left casting shafts of light through billowing clouds, with a pale comet and scattered stars at right above a dark, calm sea. Faint winged forms and a figure emerge within the glowing cloud mass, rendered in fine engraved tonal gradations. The print is titled The Creation of Light, dated 1824, and is attributed to John Martin.
