About this work
This hand-colored engraving shows a theatrical stage set with a formal garden of clipped trees, a fountain with sculpted figures, and costumed dancers in mid-performance. Chandeliers hang above the stage while spectators watch from side balconies and an orchestra sits below. The work is attributed to Bernardo Bellotto, dated 1779, and titled Le turc genereux, a ballet pantomime performed in Vienna.
