About this work

An engraved print shows a standing soldier in a plumed hat and loose breeches, carrying a long musket over his shoulder and holding a forked rest stick in one hand. Bandolier bottles hang across his chest and a sword is visible at his side, with a wisp of smoke rising near the musket's firing mechanism. This is the second plate in Jacob de Gheyn II's 1607 military exercise series, dated 1607.
