About this work

A pen-and-ink illustration shows a crenellated stone gatehouse with two flanking towers, arched mullioned windows, and tall gate piers topped with ball finials in the foreground. Dense hatching renders the stonework, overgrown grass, and foliage, and the signature at lower left reads F. L. Griggs 1905. The work is a plate from Highways and Byways in Oxford and the Cotswolds, with illustrations by Frederick L. Griggs, published in 1916.
