About this work
This engraved illustration shows a crowded military encampment with conical tents, mounted riders, and horses in the foreground, with soldiers and flags gathered near a central tent. Rugged mountains rise behind the camp, and the caption identifies it as the principal group from Horace Vernet's picture of the Battle of Isly, engraved by Paul Girardet, from a page in History of All Nations, Vol. XVIII.
