About this work
A loose, sketch-like scene of people crossing a flight of stone steps beneath a large tree, with a domed building visible in the background. The figures, including a woman in a wide-brimmed hat carrying a pail and a man in a top hat, are rendered in soft, blurred strokes. This drawing by Gaston La Touche is dated 1897 and is held by Wikimedia Commons.
