A loose pencil sketch shows a man in profile playing a violin, his head tilted over the instrument and his bow arm extended to the left. Light hatching and quick strokes define the background architecture and the shadowed jacket. The sheet is inscribed by hand with the name Piet Mondriaan and the date 17 Dec 1898.
