About this work
A riverside scene shows a white clapboard ferryhouse marked Royal Chelsea, with a tan-sailed boat moored beside it and a small rowing boat on the shore. Across the water, a post mill and a paddle steamer carrying passengers and flying a red ensign appear, with church spires on the distant bank. The work is signed and dated 1824 by John Thomas Serres.
