A wooden watchtower with a steep hipped roof stands atop a grassy, earth-toned rise, joined to a long palisade wall of upright timbers that runs along the left edge of the composition. Loose, thick brushwork in browns, ochres and greys renders the snow-dusted slope and the pale, cloudy sky. This oil study of the Watchtower of Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin was painted by Nicholas Roerich in 1903.
